Description
It was a cold Friday Night on the 17th of July, and the time; 11.30 GMT to be precise. This was an unannounced visit at an unholy hour.
The Military Junta had unleashed the dreaded looking Death Squad into the Special Block; all of them camouflaged in military regalia and wielding guns, poised to shot to kill, and you dare not look into their faces.
The Operations Commander stood at his usual place on the corridor, ready with a roughly torn sheet of paper in his right hand. This was the Death List of those for the Firing Squad. Suddenly, he screamed out the first name… They went for him…He was in the same category as me, but who and who are next on this list, and only God could tell at this moment?
Terrified to my bones, my stomach suddenly churned, and my nose begun to drip as if I had a severe Flu. Intense trepidation had overwhelmed every one of us in the Special Block, and inside of the building was dead silent like a Cemetery.
The suspense alone was killing as death had pulled a fast one on us unawares. My heart was throbbing in my chest as if a heart attack was imminent; in fact it was only hanging as on a thin strand of thread that could snap at any moment, and only God could save at this hour.
He screamed out the next name that echoed through the silent night... I almost dropped dead. They rushed to the cell of the affected inmate and pulled him out like a snake from a hole, and the whole scene was like a horror movie on set before my very eyes.
Just then I remembered Scene No. 6 of the James Fort Dream; God had revealed my destiny, but doubt had clouded my heart at this moment from what I was seeing with my physical eyes, and then I prayed:
“JESUS, can I count on you???” And this was a crucial Night to determine how Faithful God can be…
