Best known for her gentleman sleuth Albert Campion, who would be introduced in the author’s next novel, Margery Allingham is considered to be one of the four “Queens of Crime”, along with Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Ngaio Marsh. “The White Cottage Mystery” follows the investigation of the murder of mysterious recluse Eric Crowther, whose house and life cast a long shadow across the titular white cottage and its inhabitants. As Detective Chief Inspector W. T. Challoner investigates the murder he soon discovers seven suspects that had excellent motives for killing Crowther. Crossing half of Europe with his son Jerry, Detective Challoner follows the clues to uncover the secrets of these seven suspects as the investigation races to its startling conclusion.
